Symptoms of a Panic Attack

A panic attack is an episode of intense fear that is accompanied by a specific set of symptoms that can be extremely unsettling. These symptoms are often confusing since the person usually has no idea why their body is reacting in the way it is. If you have gone through 3-4 of these symptoms simultaneously, make sure to discuss them with your doctor in order to get a proper diagnosis:
Sweating
Palpitations
Increased heartbeat
Breathlessness
Dizziness
Trembling
Lightheadedness
A feeling of choking
Pain in the chest
Nausea
Stomach cramps
Chills or hot flushes
Pins and needles
Derealization or a feeling of things being unreal
Depersonalization or feeling detached from oneself
Fear of losing control or going mad
Fear of dying
Numbness
Tingling
Diarrhea
Dry mouth
Headache
These are some possible symptoms of a panic attack, though one need not have all of these symptoms during a panic episode. While a person is going through a panic attack, it feels as if one’s fear is escalating and peaking, leading to an unbearable feeling of anxiety. People typically experience panic attacks in situations such as flying, driving, excessively crowded areas, while sleeping at night.
Panic attacks usually get triggered by situations or they occur spontaneously. Spontaneous or uncued panic attacks hit you out of the blue, whereas situational ones arise out of fear of a situation. The most common situations are when a person feels trapped, so to speak. They can’t exit such as while in an airplane or they feel stuck during a meeting. People who have experienced panic attacks feel there is something terribly wrong with them medically. If  left untreated, an occasional panic episode can become a continuous cycle of fear and anxiety that can carry on for weeks or even years!
